Complete ResultsDEKALB, Ill. (1/24/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team was edged, 4-3, by Northern Illinois from Chick Evans Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon.
The Titans began the day by splitting the opening two doubles matches, with the duo of junior
Chance Conley and freshman
Griffin Mertz netting a 6-3 win from the third position over the Huskies.
It came down to the wire in the top line, but the Huskies picked up the point after a hard-fought 7-6 (7-3) win over junior
Patryk Koscielski and sophomore
Nathan Ponton.
Trailing 1-0, the Titans went to work in singles. Koscielski downed the Huskies top-player 7-6 (7-5) and 6-4.
Freshman
Nicholas Solarewicz rebounded from a 6-4 loss in the opening set with a 6-3 win in the second, before securing the Titans' second point with a 10-6 edge in the third.

Adam Zychowicz picked up Detroit's final point with a 6-1, 7-5 victory from the sixth position, but the Huskies picked up the final three matches to hold on for the 4-3 win over Detroit.
With the loss, Detroit falls to 1-2 on the young season, while Northern Illinois picks up its first win and moves to 1-1.
The Titans return to action Saturday, Jan. 30 for a dual match against Ball State University and Michigan State University from East Lansing, Mich. Detroit takes on the Cardinals at 2 p.m., before facing the Spartans at 6 p.m.
