Titans Roll to 6-1 Win Over the Warriors

DETROIT (2/7/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 win over Wayne State University in the Titans' home opener from the Franklin Athletic Club on Sunday night.
 
Detroit jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after taking two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Griffin Mertz and Chance Conley improved to 6-1 as a pair this season after downing the Warriors' second unit, 7-5. Ismail Kadyrov and Rafael Orantes gave the Titans a point after sweeping the third position, 6-0.
 
In singles, Detroit picked up points in five of the six matches to cruise to the 6-1 overall victory.
 
Nathan Ponton picked up wins of 6-3 and 6-3 from the top line, while Nicholas Solarewicz, Conley and Mertz each picked up two-set wins from the third, fifth and sixth positions. Adam Zychowicz had to work a little longer, but got the job done with a three-set win.
 
Detroit improves to 2-5 on the season with the win, while Wayne State opens the spring 0-1 with the loss.   
 
The Titans return to action Friday, Feb. 12 at Toledo.
