DETROIT (3/18/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team heads to Indiana on Saturday for a matchup with Purdue University. The match is Detroit's last non-conference contest before the start of Horizon League play on Mar. 27 at Green Bay.
Saturday's contest from the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind., is set to begin at 6 p.m.

SCOUTING THE TITANSDetroit is 2-9 on the season while facing top-level opponents. Saturday's contest against the Boilermakers will be UDM's fourth against Big Ten opponents. The Titans are 3-1 at home, but have dropped eight road contests.
In singles, Detroit is 42-59 overall and 26-46 in duals. The Titans are led by a pair of freshmen in
Adam Zychowicz and
Nicholas Solarewicz, with nine and seven wins, respectively. Zychowicz is 2-0 from the fourth position and 3-2 from the sixth, while Solarewicz has four wins from the third, fourth and fifth spots.
Patryk Koscielski has three wins from the top line, followed by
Nathan Ponton's four wins from the first and second positions.
In doubles, Detroit is 17-29 overall and 11-21 in duals. The tandem of
Chance Conley and
Griffin Mertz leads the Titans with six wins from the second and third positions in doubles.
LAST TIME OUTDetroit split last weekend against No. 11 Northwestern and Chicago State. The Titans fell 7-0 to the Wildcats, before bouncing back with a hard fought 4-3 decision over Chicago State. Detroit grabbed the edge with an early point in doubles and secured the win with three wins in singles.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERSPurdue is 11-3 overall on the season and boast a 7-1 record at home. The Boilermakers have lost two of their last three after reeling off eight consecutive wins.
No. 69 Gergely Madarasz is 2-0 vs. ranked opponents and leads the team in spring wins with 11. He owns an 11-1 record at the top of Purdue's lineup and has won his last eight matches.
The Boilermakers have 11 wins at each of the top-three spots in the singles lineup. Nos. 1 and 3 are 11-1 and No. 2 is 11-1, with Benjamin Ugarte giving Purdue its second double-digit winner at 10-2.
Purdue carries at 15-9 doubles record and has claimed the point seven times. The Boilermakers are 7-0 when earning the point.
