Tennis Hosts YSU and CSU This Weekend

DETROIT (4/1/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's tennis teams return home this weekend to host Youngstown State and Cleveland State from the Franklin Athletic Club.
 
The Titans will face the Penguins on Saturday, April 2 at 6 p.m. and close the weekend against the Vikings on Sunday at 4 p.m.
 
 
THE MEN

RECORDS
Detroit 3-11, 0-1 HL
Youngstown State 4-11, 0-1 HL
Cleveland State 10-8, 0-1 HL
 
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit is 3-11 on the season with a number of fierce opponents already in the books. The Titans are 3-1 at home, but have dropped ten road contests.
 
In singles, Detroit is 43-70 overall and 27-57 in duals. The Titans are led in wins by a pair of freshmen in Adam Zychowicz and Nicholas Solarewicz, with nine and seven wins respectively. Zychowicz is 2-1 from the fourth position and 3-2 from the sixth, while Solarewicz has four wins from the third, fourth and fifth spots.
 
Patryk Koscielski has four wins from Detroit's top line, followed by Nathan Ponton with three wins from the second spot.
 
In doubles, Detroit is 18-33 overall and 12-25 in duals. The tandem of Chance Conley and Griffin Mertz leads the Titans with six wins from the second and third positions.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Titans fell at Green Bay in their Horizon League opener last weekend. The Phoenix outlasted Detroit, 6-1, with Koscielski earning the Titans' lone point after a win from the top line in singles.
 
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State has lost six of its last seven and sits at 4-11 overall on the season. The Penguins dropped a heartbreaker in their conference opener to Northern Kentucky, 4-3. YSU is 2-5 on the road so far this spring.
 
In singles, YSU is 64-72 overall and 39-50 this spring. Hugo Morth leads the team the team with five wins from the top line, while Matthew Kritzinger has four wins from the second spot. Yossi Dahan boasts a 7-1 record from the fourth position, while Bassem El Mekawi is 4-1 from No. 5.
 
Youngstown State is 21-36 overall in doubles, with a 16-27 mark this spring. Morth and Dahan have three wins from the top line, while Gabriel Tolesani and El Mekawl has four wins from No. 3.
 
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
Cleveland State is 10-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Vikings lost four of six after winning three in a row. CSU dropped its Horizon League opener against the Norse, 4-3.
 
The Vikings are 87-83 overall in singles, with an even 54-54 mark this spring. Colton Buffington and Mirko Radosevic each have three wins from the top line, while Joe VanMeter has eight wins from No. 2 and No. 3. Meanwhile, Kevin Goth has eight wins from the fourth and fifth spots.
 
In doubles, Cleveland State is 48-31 overall and 31-18 this spring. VanMeter and Andre Mick are 8-5 from the first spot, while Goth and Buffington are 5-1 from No. 2.
 

THE WOMEN

SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit is 3-5 on the season and are coming off a pair of wins in the Badger State. The Titans are 32-48 overall in singles, with a 19-29 mark this spring.
 
UDM is led by Anna Davydova with a 5-3 mark in singles this spring. Davydova is 3-2 from the top line and 1-0 from the second spot. Nynke Van Der Goot and Iris Thioux each add four wins apiece for the Titans.
 
In doubles, Detroit is 20-18 overall and 10-13 this spring. The tandem of Davydova and Irina Slizovskaya has won its last three matchups and leads UDM with a 5-2 record from the top line of doubles. Valeryia Kulikovskaya and Viktoria Laskutova have won three from the second position.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Titans opened Horizon League play last weekend with a pair of road victories at Milwaukee and Green Bay. Detroit edged the Panthers, 4-3, before shutting out the Phoenix, 7-0. Slizovskaya led the Titans with a perfect 2-0 mark from the third line in singles and also went 2-0 from the top doubles line.
 
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State is 4-10 on the season and 2-0 in league play. In singles, the Penguins are 63-75 overall and swept all singles matches last weekend to go to 12-0 against HL opponents in singles.
 
Dominika Lackova has three wins from the top line, followed by Annina Brendel at 5-1 from No. 2. Nehel Sahni has dominated the fifth spot with a perfect 7-0 mark in singles. In doubles, YSU is 21-44 overall and 2-3 in HL play.
 
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
Cleveland State is 6-7 overall and 2-0 in Horizon League play. The Vikings are 49-95 overall in singles, with an 8-4 mark against HL opponents. Isabella Spindler and Aleksandra Golawska lead the team with seven singles wins apiece, followed by Mathilde Orange and Victoria Bensimon with four wins apiece.
 
In doubles, Orange and Princess Gbadamosi lead the squad with a 7-5 mark, six of which come from the third position. Spindler and Golawska are 4-5 from the top line of doubles, while Morgan Nix and Bensimon have three wins from No. 2.

ON TAP
Following this weekend's action, the Titan men's team will return to the court at Northern Kentucky next Sunday, April 10, from Highland Heights, Ky.
