CHICAGO (1/21/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team fell on the road to DePaul, 6-1, on Saturday night from the Windy City. The Blue Demons improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Titans fall to 0-2.
Junior
Nathan Ponton picked up a win from the third position to lead the Titans, defeating Boris Spanjaard 6-4, 6-2.
Senior
Patryk Koscielski fell in a tough fought battle from the top line in three sets. Koscielski took the opening set, 7-6 (9), before falling in the second, 6-3, and the third, 11-9.
Artem Vasheshnikov was also locked in a heated match from the second spot. The newcomer rallied to tie the match with a 6-2 win in the second set, before falling in the decisive third frame.
The Blue Demons took the doubles point after securing wins from the first and third positions.
The Titans are back in action in their home opener next Saturday, January 28, against Duquesne. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. from Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
