DETROIT (2/3/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team returns to action this weekend hosting Wayne State and Northwestern Ohio on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4-5.
The Titans will first face the Warriors on Saturday night at 5 p.m., before turning their attention to the Sunday night matchup against the Racers at 6 p.m. Both matches will be held from Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
LAST TIME OUT
The Titans cruised to a 5-2 win over Duquesne in their home opener last weekend, improving their record on the early season to 1-2. Detroit Mercy secured the doubles point by taking the first two matches and after the Dukes evened the score at 2-2, the Titans swept the final three decisions to walk away with the win. Koscielski, Vasheshnikov and Ponton each picked up singles wins from Nos. 1-3, with Stelmaszak adding a win from the fifth position.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Saturday night's contest will be Wayne State's first action of 2017. The Warriors have eight returning letter winners on their 10-man roster, with one transfer and a freshman also in uniform. Wayne State returns its top four leaders from last season, with Ryan Carlson, Harvey Reed, Taylor Vane and Clement Charriere all posting 12 or more singles wins in 2015-16.
SCOUTING THE RACERS
UNOH is 1-0 in the early going this spring after picking up a 5-4 win over Kenyon College last weekend. Theo Baudin is 11-3, including a 2-0 mark from the top line. Jean-Marc Krone also has 11 wins, followed by Gjorgji Popovski with nine wins, Lars Kaplusch with eight and Iustin Baclu with seven. The Racers feature five upperclassmen on the eight-man roster.
