DETROIT (3/17/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team was tripped up with a 6-1 loss to Eastern Michigan University on Friday night from Franklin Athletic Club.
After falling in doubles, the Titans were hot out of the gates in singles and took the lead in four matches. The Eagles would respond, however, as three matches went to extra sets. Eastern Michigan would go on to take all three and five of six singles matches for the 6-1 advantage.
Freshman
Ksenia Providokhina picked up the lone point for Detroit Mercy with a win in straight sets from No. 6 singles. The rookie took the opener 6-4 and backed it up with a strong 6-1 edge in the second.
Senior
Anna Davydova fell from the top line in three sets, as did
Iris Thioux from No. 3 and
Nynke Van Der Goot from No. 5. Davydova and Thioux each won the opening set, but Marie Mayerova and Andrea Martinovska each completed the comeback. Van Der Goot fell in the opening set before answering with a win in the second, but couldn't close it out as she was edged 10-7 in the third.
Detroit Mercy falls to 3-8 overall and 2-2 at home with the loss. The Titans will look to bounce back against Grand Valley State on Sunday night at 6 p.m. from Franklin Athletic Club.
