SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (3/19/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team used a strong showing in singles play to topple Grand Valley State University, 4-3, on Sunday night from Franklin Athletic Club.
After the visiting Lakers (16-6) took the doubles point, the Titans (4-8) bounced back to take four of six singles matches and earn the victory.
Detroit Mercy got wins in singles at No. 1 from
Anna Davydova, No. 4 from
Nynke Van Der Goot and No. 6 from
Pauline Van Herck to tie the match at 3-3. The final point would come down to No. 5 and freshman
Ksenia Providokhina. The rookie came through with the comeback in extra sets to seal the win for Detroit Mercy.
Davydova took the top line in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-6. Classmate Van Der Goot posted a 7-6, 6-4 win and Van Herck powered to victory with a pair of 6-1 wins.

Iris Thioux teamed up to take the top line by a 6-4 edge.
The Titans will look to carry the momentum into Horizon League play, which begins for Detroit Mercy in two weeks as the home stand continues against Milwaukee (Apr. 1) and Green Bay (Apr. 2).
