Kyle Gaines claimed a spot in the top 15 and freshmen
Scott Sparks and
Zack Tenerowicz each posted season lows as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team finished play at the 5th Annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
As a team, the Titans were solid again out on the links recording a 291 score and finished in eighth place with an 894 (315, 288, 291).Â
Gaines lowered his score for the third-straight round as he carded a 2-under 70 on the final 18 and shared 14th overall with a 220 (76, 74, 70).
Tenerowicz tied his season low with a 221 (76, 73, 72), including an even-par 72 on the final day to tie for 17th for his first career top-20 effort, while Sparks posted a career-best 226 (83, 68, 75) to tie for 26th.
Detroit Mercy will now get ready for the Hoosier Invitational, hosted by Indiana from April 1-2.

- The Titans 288 in round two and 291 in round three are their top two rounds on the season, with the 288 the best since collecting a 284 in the third round of the Jackrabbit Invitational last spring.Â
- Gaines topped the team and was tied for fourth among the competition with 38 pars, while Tenerowicz had 34.Â
- It was Gaines' 12th top-20 finish in his career and fourth this season.Â
- Gaines now has five rounds at par or better this season, while Tenerowicz is at four.Â
- Tenerowicz also finished with a 221 at the Cleveland State Invitational.Â
- Sparks' previous best was a 229 at the Cleveland State Invitational, but he did record his season-low 4-under 68 in the second round.Â
- Senior Spencer Lendzion led the team with 11 birdies, tied for ninth in the field, while Sparks and Tenerowicz each had eight apiece.Â
- Lendzion registered a -1, 2.92 average on the course's par 3's, tied for the second lowest in the event.Â
- Tenerowicz led Detroit Mercy with a 3-under, 4.75 average on the course's par 5's, while Gaines had a 3-over, 4.10 average on the par 4's.Â
- Senior David Thompson shaved four strokes off his season low with his 235 total.Â
