NASHPORT, Ohio (8/29/2026) -- Senior David Swab leads the way, and freshman Christian Helzer had a nice start to his collegiate career as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team started its fall season at the Virtues Intercollegiate.

UDM is 11th with a 606 (305-301) at the par 72, 7,243-yard Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

Swab posted a 148 (72-76)  and is tied for 39th. He started the day with a birdie on his first hole and had three birdies and 12 pars for a season-opening even 72, and had two more birdies and 11 pars in the afternoon.

Helzer is tied for 42nd with a 149 (75-74). He parred his collegiate first hole and added three birdies on the back nine for a 3-over 75 in round one before starting the second 18 with a birdie and finishing with two more birdies for a 2-over 74.

Senior Mason Sokolowski shares 50th with a 150 (76-74), while senior Gowtham Nalluri is 60th with a 153 (76-77). Sokolowski registered the most birdies on the team with seven, while Nalluri knocked in six. 

Junior Harshan Juttu shot a 155 (81-74), but in his second round, he rang in the Titans' first eagle of the season en route to a 2-over 74.

The final round of the tournament will tee off at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
