DETROIT (9/11/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team will make its first-ever trip to the state of West Virginia as the Titans compete in the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par 71, 6,523-yard Guyan Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia. The event will start with two rounds on Monday, Sept. 14, at 9:00 a.m., and conclude on Tuesday.

The field will consist of host Marshall, Bellarmine, Central Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Loyola Chicago, Mercyhurst, Morehead State, Mount St. Mary's, Murray State, NKU, Purdue Fort Wayne, Wright State, and Youngstown State. 

It is the first time that Detroit Mercy will take part in the event. 

The Titans started the fall campaign two weeks ago, finishing 11th with a 909 (305-301-303) at the Virtues Intercollegiate. 

It was a great debut for freshman Christian Helzer as he led the team with a 219 (75-74-70), the best 54-hole opener by a rookie since 2018, and placed 27th overall.

Senior David Swab was 38th with a 222 (72-76-74), while senior Mason Sokolowski shared  55th with a 227 (76-74-77). 

Sokolowski, Swab, and senior Gowtham Nalluri are all in the top 15 in scoring average in school history.
