DAYTON, Ohio (3/25/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 defeat on the road at Dayton University on Saturday afternoon from Five Seasons Sports Club in the Buckeye State.
The Titans fell behind early after dropping the doubles point, but stormed back with three wins in singles to tie the match at 3-3. Dayton would earn the win, however, after taking the final match in extra sets.
The match was close throughout, with four singles matches going to a third set. The Titans received wins from sophomore
Artem Vasheshnikov at No. 1 singles, junior
Nathan Ponton at No. 3 and senior
Chance Conley at No. 6.
Senior
Patryk Koscielski bounced back from a 6-1 loss in the opening set of No. 2 singles to win the second set, 7-5, before falling 6-3 in the third. Sophomore
Adam Zychowicz also suffered a hard fought defeat in three sets at No. 5 singles.
In doubles,
Kacper Stelmaszak and Zychowicz teamed up for a 6-2 win from the third position.
Detroit Mercy is back in action tomorrow night at Indiana. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. from Bloomington, Ind.
