CHICAGO, Ill. (3/4/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team capped a 2-0 weekend from the Prairie State with a 7-0 sweep over Eastern Illinois on Saturday morning.
The Titans powered by the Panthers for the doubles point and kept the momentum going in singles by taking five of the six points in straight sets.
Senior
Patryk Koscielski won 6-1 and 6-1 from the second position and junior
Nathan Ponton took No. 3 with decisions of 6-1 and 6-2.
Senior
Kacper Stelmaszak earned a 7-6 win in the first set of No. 4 singles and completed the win with a 6-2 win in the second.
Sophomore
Adam Zychowicz and senior
Chance Conley took the fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Zychowicz earned a 6-1, 6-4 win, while Conley picked up the victory 6-2 and 6-3.
Sophomore
Artem Vasheshnikov completed the sweep for the Titans with a three-set win from the top line. Vasheshnikov took the opening set, 6-2, before falling in a tight 6-7 second set. The sophomore earned the win with a 10-8 advantage in the final frame.
With the win, the Titans improve to 5-6 on the season. Detroit Mercy will look to keep the momentum going next week at Mercer (Mar. 7), Kennesaw State (Mar. 8) and Chattanooga (Mar. 9).
