ANN ARBOR, Mich. (4/29/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Titans dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 1 Youngstown State in the semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament from the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center.

Youngstown State came out strong and powered their way to the doubles point. The momentum continued in singles play as the top-seeded Penguins took the first three decisions to clinch the win and advance to the Horizon League Championship, where the squad will look for its fourth-straight title.

Detroit Mercy trailed across the board after the first set of singles wrapped up, but sophomore Iris Thioux bounced back with a win in the second set and led in the third when YSU clinched the point.

After lopsided scores in the opening set, senior Nynke Van Der Goot and sophomore Pauline Van Herck each put together strong second sets, but YSU managed to pick up the win after a 7-6 edge over Van Herck at No. 5.

The match marks the final collegiate action for the Titan senior duo of Anna Davydova and Nynke Van Der Goot, two important players for Detroit Mercy over their careers in the red, white and blue.

The Titans finish the season at 11-12 overall, while YSU improves to 15-8 on the season and heads to the championship match on Sunday.
