Gowtham Nalluri claimed a top 15 spot and the Titans recorded one of its lowest scores in school history as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team finished up Murray State's The Buddy on Tuesday.
Detroit Mercy posted a team score of 868 (292-285-291) for sixth place at the par 71, 6,710-yard Miller Memorial Golf Course. While the 285 in the second round was a season-best and the lowest score by the squad since 2021, the final 868 mark is tied for 11th in school history and the lowest since UDM recorded the same score at the 2016 Jackrabbit Invitational.
Nalluri led the team by tying for 15th with a season-low 214 (74-67-73), the lowest score by a freshman since
Anthony Occhiuto's 213 at the 2018 NKU Fall Collegiate. His final round of 2-over 73 saw him knock in 11 pars and three birdies. His 12 birdies led the team and were tied for the 10th most in the event, and he also tied for his 4.00, even-par scoring average on the par 4's.
Senior
Alek Mauro was just outside the top 20, sharing 22nd with a 215 (71-73-71). His even-par final round saw him register eight pars and five birdies. He also tied for fifth among the competition with his even-par 3.00 average on the par 3's.
Sophomore
Austin Brancaccio carded a career-best 220 (76-72-72), tying for 36th place. It was nine shots better than his previous career best as he ended the event with his second-straight career-tying 1-over 72, tallying 11 pars and three birdies. He also tied for fifth with a 3.00 average on the par 3's.
Junior
Marko Banic tied his career-best with a 221 (71-73-77) for a share of 41st, and he also led the team and was tied for fourth, posting 37 pars in his 54 holes.
Detroit Mercy will now train for the spring championship season.
