Jones Earns Win & Tie At Midwest Match Play Championship

Junior Morgan Jones had a win over Purdue Fort Wayne to start the day.
JACKSON, Mich. (8/31/2026) -- Junior Morgan Jones was nearly perfect on the day as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team opened the fall season with a pair of matches at the Midwest Match Play Championship.

UDM dropped a pair of close affairs, falling to host Purdue Fort Wayne, 3.5-2.5, and Southern Indiana, 4.5-1.5, at the par 72, 5,915-yard The Grande Club in Jackson, Michigan.

Jones won her bout against the Mastodons' Amaya Wade, 2 & 1, winning holes 8, 9 and 10 to go up by two and eventually stretched that lead to three before halving her contest with Elizabeth Mercer of the Screaming Eagles.

Sophomore Sadie Kondel defeated Louise Ekesall of Purdue Fort Wayne, 3 & 2. She took control early with a two-hole lead through seven and pushed that advantage to three.

Senior Gabriella Tapp tied her match against Purdue Fort Wayne's Lillian Gottman as she had a two-hole lead late and just couldn't hold on, while sophomore Ava Wisinski posted a win against McKenna Lowe of Southern Indiana, 3 & 2.

The final match will have the red, white and blue face UIC tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
