Junior Amanda Cornwell (Waterford, MI/Kettering) and sophomore Carolina Salas Espinosa (Monterrey, Mexico/Preparatoria No. 7) each posted singles and doubles wins on the day as Detroit concluded its fall season on Saturday at the Rocket Invitational.

Salas Espinosa tallied her win against Toledo's Kelsey Anonsen, 7-5, 6-1, while Cornwell ousted Duquesne's Megan O'Sullivan 6-3, 7-5 (8). Cornwell nearly pulled off another victory as she dropped a tough three-set affair to the Rockets' Polina Guimaraes, 7-6 (5), 0-6 (10-7).

In doubles, the Titan top tandem upended UT's Anonsen and Ashley Frey, 8-6.

Meanwhile, the Titan duo of senior Erin Weldon (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan) and freshman Julia Fernandes (Mississauga, ON/John Fraser) defeated Tara Majdalani and Madeline Bittner of Duquesne, 8-5. They were then in position for another win, but just could not pull it off falling 9-7 to a Toledo team.

While the fall season for Detroit has ended as a team, UDM will have a few individuals participate in the ITA Wilson Midwest Regionals, scheduled for Oct. 21-26 at the University of Michigan. More information on the event, including seeding and playing schedule, will be released shortly.
