Titan Tennis Continues at Eastern Michigan

Final Match Results

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The women's tennis team played in its second contest of the 2011 dual season with a match at Eastern Michigan earlier today.

The Titans fell by a 7-0 score to move to 0-2 on the dual season.

Junior Amanda Cornwell (Waterford, MI/Kettering ) was in the No. 1 singles position for Detroit and opened her match with a 6-3 win in the opening set. Cornwell was up against junior Miriam Westerink of Eastern Michigan who forced a third set with a 6-4 win. Westerink took the final set by the same 6-4 margin taking the point for her team.

In doubles, the No. 1 pair for the Titans featured Cornwell and sophomore Carolina Salas Espinosa (Monterrey, Mexico/Preparatoria No. 7) and pushed Eastern Michigan's Westerink and Nino Mebuke in a set that went the distance. The Eagle pairing would prevail as they were on the top end of a 9-7 decision.

The Titans will open up the home portion of the schedule against IPFW on Sunday at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, MI. The match will start at 6:00 p.m.
