Final Match Results

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Detroit hosted regional foe Bowling Green earlier today at the Wimbledon Racquet Club in St. Clair Shores, MI as the Titans (0-9) suffered a 6-1 defeat.

The Falcons jumped out to a quick lead taking two doubles points from Detroit. It looked as if the No. 1 Titan pairing of sophomore Carolina Salas Espinosa (Monterrey, Mexico/Preparatoria No. 7) and junior Amanda Cornwell (Waterford, MI/Kettering ) were in control of their match taking an early lead but Bowling Green would come back and take the set 8-6.

In singles, Espinosa won her opening set 6-2, but would fall 10-8 in the third frame. Playing at No. 1 singles, it was the seventh time out of nine matches that last year's Horizon League Newcomer of the Year has been in that position for Detroit this year.

Junior Melanie Capuano (Grosse Pointe Farms, MI/Grosse Pointe South) would be the lone Titan on the day to win her singles match as she took a victory in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

The Titans will have a few weeks in between competition with the next scheduled match set for Friday, March 11. Detroit will travel to Memphis, TN and play Illinois State and Memphis in consecutive days with Memphis serving as the host for both matches.
