Day One Recap
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The final day of the Bowling Green Invitational wrapped up with a pair of Titans finishing fifth in their respective singles flights in women's tennis action on Saturday.
Senior
Amanda Cornwell defeated Vanessa Steiner of Duquesne 6-1, 3-0 (ret) in flight two singles and sophomore
Elena Strakhova took down Judy Li of Duquesne in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, in flight three as both ended the day with singles wins.
Sophomore
Julia Fernandes also won her last match of the day as she won a straight set 6-0, 6-4 contest over Jesika Bays of IUPUI in flight six singles.
In doubles, the pairing of Cornwell and sophomore
Chloe Karoub defeated Vanessa Whyte and Abbey Neff of IUPUI 8-4 before falling in the fifth place match in flight one doubles.
In the other doubles pairing, Strakhova and Fernandes were on the losing end of an 8-4 score to Maria Lazaris and Kara Sherwood of Cleveland State in their only match-up of the day in flight three doubles.
Detroit's next fall tournament will be at Ball State on Oct. 7-8.
