Titans to Host Pair of Dual Matches This Weekend

DETROIT -- The women's tennis team will host a pair of matches this weekend as Duquesne and Toledo will be in town. On Friday evening, a 7:00p.m. match with Duquesne will be held at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield followed by Sunday's match on the UDM campus at the Titan Tennis Complex at 1:00 p.m.

Detroit is 2-5 in dual matches in 2012 and the team is currently riding a two match win streak after a 4-3 win over Chicago State on Feb. 25 in Fort Wayne. A second 4-3 win over IPFW came the day before also in Fort Wayne with the conference schedule looming now just three matches away.

Julia Fernandes and Elena Strakhova have each won their last two singles matches while Fernandes has also performed well in doubles matches pairing with Chloe Karoub to win two straight doubles contests. Strakhova leads the team in overall wins in the 2011-12 season with eight.

Duquesne is 8-6 in dual match play and is riding a five-match win streak with their last match, a 7-0 sweep over Wright State. The Dukes are also 3-0 on the road conests this year heading into their Saturday match-up against Detroit's Sunday opponent at Toledo.

Toledo is 5-6 overall and are also coming in on a winning note after three straight dual match wins. The last came in a home affair with Cincinnati with the Rockets posting a 5-2 score on March 11. The other two wins were both victories by the same 6-1 margin in Orlando, FL against Nova Southeastern and Grand Valley State.

The next match for the Titans is scheduled to be on March 21 as Wayne State will host Detroit.
