Detroit Looks to Improve Its HL Championship Seed Against Green Bay

DETROIT (4/19/13) – The Detroit men's tennis team will finish its regular season with a conference match against Green Bay that will take place at Valparaiso on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
 
Postseason Bound
Detroit currently sits one game ahead Valparaiso in the Horizon League standings and both teams have one conference match remaining. Due to the victory the Titans enjoyed over the Crusaders on April 7 they hold the tiebreaker and have clinched at least a sixth seed in the HL Championships. Passing the Torch
Senior Cesar Escobar Serrano is now the singles wins record holder with 57 career wins. Freshman Rafael Orantes currently sits two wins ahead of Serrano on the year with 12 wins, already passing Serrano's freshman year mark of 11.
 
The Titans
Orantes leads the team with 12 wins on the year and is tied with Serrano with three HL wins. Orantes has a win at fourth singles and has added six and five wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Serrano has two wins at second singles this year and has added five wins at third singles and three more at fourth.
 
The doubles pair of Mike Basha and Alex Latosinsky has a pair of conference doubles wins at first doubles and Jay Joshi and Pablo Nunez have a two HL wins at second doubles. Basha and Latosinsky have seven wins on the year and Joshi and Nunez have totaled six.
 
On a Roll
Five Titans are holding singles winning streaks with Orantes leading the team with five-straight wins. Alex Latosinsky and Pablo Nunez have both won their last three matches and Serrano has won his past two matches.
 
As a team the Titans have won their previous four matches that included a 4-3 win over conference opponent Valparaiso on April 7. This four-match streak is tied for the longest streak since the Titans won five consecutive matches in 1991.
 
The Phoenix
Green Bay has clinched a share of the Horizon League title after a 5-2 win over Wright State on April 13. The Phoenix holds a 15-6 (5-0 HL) record and has won its previous six matches. Three Phoenix have a perfect 5-0 record in conference play. Michael Tenzer is 12-3 at first singles this year and has won his last five matches. Craig Cox has a 17-4 record on the year and holds a combined 5-0 record in first and second singles and is 12-4 in the third slot.
 
In doubles play Cox and Finkenbrink are 11-7 on the year at first doubles and are 3-2 in conference action. In Horizon League action, Howard Scott and Michael Tebon are 3-2 at second doubles and Joey Leto and Tenzer are 3-2 at third doubles.

Detroit will travel to Indianapolis for the Horizon League Championships on Friday, April 26 and will continue until Sunday, April 28.
