DETROIT (1/29/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action this week as both squads have ranked foes on the docket.
The women will have a pair of matches in Kalamazoo as they play at Western Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 6:00 p.m., before facing #35 Tennessee on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
Detroit got back on track last week with a pair of road wins defeating Bowling Green, 6-1, and Eastern Michigan, 4-3, to move to 2-2 on the young season.
Junior
Irina Slizovskaya led the way with two singles wins and a doubles victory en route to being named the Horizon League Player of the Week. She currently has 14 total wins on the year, second behind sophomore
Anna Davydova who has a team-high 17 wins, including nine in singles.
The men's tennis team will have just one match as the Titan travel to East Lansing to face #59 Michigan State on Saturday in a 6:00 p.m., showdown. The Spartans are 2-3 on the season with wins over North Carolina A&T and Elon and have road losses to #12 Duke, #28 North Carolina State and #8 Georgia.
Detroit is 4-29-1 all-time against Michigan State and has dropped all six matches since returning to varsity status in 2008.
The Titans are still looking for their first win of the season, but two of their three losses have been by a 4-3 decision. Sophomore

Nathan Ponton lead the team with five singles wins and Ponton is undefeated so far in singles during the duel season.
