DETROIT (3/31/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's tennis teams are both in action from the Titan Tennis Courts this weekend as the squads open Horizon League play.
The men's team hosts Green Bay on Sunday at 10 a.m., while the women take on Milwaukee on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Green Bay on Sunday at 2 p.m. All three matches will be held outdoors from the Titan Tennis Courts at the James K. Campbell Complex behind historic Calihan Hall.

SCOUTING THE TITANS
The Men
After defeating Chattanooga, 4-1, the Titans dropped a pair of contests on the road in their final non-conference tune-ups. Detroit Mercy suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat at Dayton, before falling at No. 35 Indiana, 4-1. The Titans are 6-10 overall, but own a 4-2 record in home and neutral site contests.
Sophomore
Artem Vasheshnikov has won four straight singles matches from the top line and leads the team with 16 singles victories. Junior
Nathan Ponton has won three straight from the third position and is second on the team with 14 singles wins. Senior
Patryk Koscielski has 10 singles wins while playing from the first and second positions, while classmate
Chance Conley and sophomore
Adam Zychowicz each have nine wins. The tandem of Ponton and Vasheshnikov leads the way in doubles with five wins on the top line.

The Women
The Titans enter the weekend at 4-8 overall after a splitting with Eastern Michigan and Grand Valley two weeks ago. Detroit Mercy fell to EMU, 6-1, before bouncing back with a hard-fought 4-3 win over the Lakers. The Titans are 3-1 from home in 2017.
Senior
Nynke Van Der Goot leads the squad with 11 singles wins and is 7-4 from the fourth and fifth positions. Classmate
Anna Davydova has seven singles wins, including four from the top line. Sophomore
Iris Thioux and freshman
Ksenia Providokhina each have seven singles wins, while the duo of Van Der Goot and Thioux pace Detroit Mercy with five doubles wins.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Milwaukee enters the weekend at 7-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play after splitting against NKU and Wright State. The Panthers defeated the Norse, 5-2, before falling by a narrow 4-3 margin versus Wright State. Milwaukee will be looking for its first road win of the year after falling in its first four tries away from home.
The Panthers return a pair of All-Horizon League selections last year in First Team honoree Labina Petrovska and Second Team selection Hayley Marshall. Petrovska is 4-7 from the top line, while Marshall is 2-6 from No. 3 and 4-0 from No. 5.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
The Men
Green Bay enters the weekend at 5-7 overall and 2-0 in Horizon League play after defeating Wright State 5-2 and NKU 4-3 last weekend. The Phoenix have won three of their last four and are 1-5 in true road games this season. Flroian Kraenzler is 6-5 from the top line and Matej Kostadinov is 5-6 from No. 2, with Josh Schramm posting an 8-4 record from No. 3.
The Women
The Green Bay women are still searching for their first win of the season and enter the weekend with a 0-8 overall record and 0-2 clip in Horizon League play. The Phoenix dropped its conference openers to Wright State and NKU last weekend and are 0-3 on the road. Chiara Berg leads the team with four singles wins.
