FINAL RESULTS
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The women's tennis team competed in its second fall tournament of the season participating in the two-day Ball State Invitational held in Muncie, IN as five Titans were in action.
In singles,
Amanda Cornwell finished 1-2 over the weekend as she fell in a third set tiebreaker to Kayla Tuscany of Wright State 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Cornwell then went on to defeat Shelby Hullett of IUPUI in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 before falling in her third match.
Chloe Karoub won her first singles match 7-5, 6-3 over Anita Henestrosa of IPFW before falling to Amandine Faouzi of Eastern Kentucky 6-1, 6-4. Karoub then won a second match over Maureen Stevens of Dayton 3-6, 6-2 (7-1)
Elena Strakhova fell 6-3, 6-4 to Ashlyn Rang of the host team Ball State and then won a third set tiebreaker over Sammi Hombarger of Dayton 6-2, 1-6, 10-5.
After a loss in her first match,
Julia Fernandes came back to win her next two matches. She first posted a 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 10-8 score over Victoria Marchant of Dayton and then followed that with a 6-4, 6-2 straight set victory over Jesika Bays of IUPUI.
Raina Halabi started off with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Chelsea Girgash of Wright State and then won her second match over Danielle Haefele of IUPUI 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Cornwell and Fernandes played together and after a first match loss, won an 8-4 decision over the Dayton pair of McNulty and Erin Filbrandt to finish 1-2 overall.
The combination of Titans Karoub and Strakhova started doubles play on the wrong end of an 8-5 score to Alex Forsyth and Marcy Huck of IPFW. The Detroit due then won 8-1 over Valparaiso's Michele Fredlake and Kaitlyn Hamel and then posted a second win with an 8-4 win over Alisha Cummings and Hullett of IUPUI.
Halabi played doubles with Eastern Kentucky's Saioa Oscoz. The two went on to win three matches together. They first scored an 8-4 victory over Liz Steingass and Lizzy Clark of Wright State and then 8-1 over Valparaiso's Lauren Kammerer and Aubree Zdanovec 8-1. Their final match was against Paola Rodriguez and Kylee Johnson from the host team Ball State and won 8-6.
The Titans will look ahead to their next action on Oct. 14-15 at the Toledo Rocket Invite hosted by the University of Toledo.
