DETROIT -- The women's tennis team hosted Valparaiso Friday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Complex and came away with a 6-1 victory. Three doubles wins and five of six singles victories led the Titans (5-10, 2-3 Horizon League) over the Crusaders (4-10, 0-5 HL).

Raina Halabi was part of two wins playing at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles.

"Today I got off to a real slow start playing in the outdoor conditions. It is hard to adjust but I got it together in the first set. It was still real close but it was just a matter of getting balls in the court and staying consistent," said Halabi who came away with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 singles win and paired with Chloe Karoub in doubles for an 8-1 defeat.

For Halabi, it was her second straight singles win and in doubles, the No. 2 Titan duo of Halabi and Karoub have captured wins in five of their last six matches.

"Playing with Chloe has been a pleasure. She is left handed so we complement each other well and her game style definitely goes with mine," said Halabi.

In Horizon League play, Detroit has fared well in doubles as Halabi and Karoub, and the Titan No. 1 pairing of Elena Strakhova and Amanda Cornwell both have identical 4-1 records in conference play.

It was a doubles sweep across the board this afternoon against Valparaiso as Cornwell and Strakhova won 8-3, Halabi and Karoub posted an 8-1 score at No. 2 and in the No. 3 spot, Julia Fernandes and Alyssa Korson teamed up for an 8-5 victory.

Singles play saw Detroit record five of six victories. For Cornwell, it was her sixth straight singles win and seventh in her last eight. She leads the team with a perfect 5-0 mark in Horizon League action and a 9-6 record in dual-match play to also lead the squad. Halabi, Karoub, Strakhova, and Fernandes also came away with victories in their singles matches.

The Titans will close out their home schedule Saturday morning as they will welcome the defending Horizon League women's tennis champion UIC for an 11:00 a.m. match at the Titan Tennis Complex. Prior to the contest, the Titans will celebrate senior day and recognize Amanda Cornwell in a short ceremony.
