INDIANAPOLIS (3/14/13) – Cesar Escobar Serrano broke Detroit's all-time singles wins record with his 56th career win coming at second singles as the Titans defeated IUPUI, 5-2.

"Four years ago, Cesar took a chance on a new program and now has entered uncharted territory," said head coach Grant Asher. " Cesar has made history and will be in the record books forever. Cesar will be the first to acknowledge this record would not have been possible without guys like Pjotrs [Necajevs] mentoring him along the way. It is a proud day for Pjotrs, the coaching staff, and all Titans. Pjotrs and Cesar are two of the greatest players, but more importantly, their work ethic, character and leadership are even better."

Serrano earned his win in straight sets at second singles, 6-3, 6-3, and he worked with Alex Latosinsky to take first doubles, 8-6. The pair of Mike Basha and Chris Cheung clinched the point at third doubles, 8-6. Wins by Latosinsky and Cheung add to their individual doubles wins record, now totaling 46 victories.

Rafael Orantes earned his 11th win on the year, taking sixth singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Seniors Pablo Nunez and Latosinsky both earned their sixth singles wins on the season, with Nunez taking fourth singles, 6-0, 6-4, and Latosinsky earning a win at third singles, 6-0, 6-3.

"Great win last night over last year's regular season MAC Champion on Senior Night," said Asher. "It was a full team effort with all seniors getting a win. I'm so proud of this group. They have set the singles winning record and doubles records in their four years of play."

Detroit will continue its weekend road trip when it takes on IPFW in Fort Wayne on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
