Titans Slip at UIC

CHICAGO (4/6/13) – The Detroit men's tennis team let a wet nail biter slip through their fingers at UIC Saturday night. The match started outdoors but after rain delays, it had to be moved inside for the final match.
 
Alex Latosinsky and Mike Basha took first doubles, 8-3, for the Titans, but UIC captured third doubles by a tally of 8-6. Pablo Nunez and Jay Joshi took second doubles to a tie break but eventually fell, 9-7 (10-8), giving the Flames the doubles point.
 
In singles play, freshman Rafael Orantes earned his ninth win of the year with a 6-2, 6-4 win at sixth singles. Cesar Escobar Serrano moved one win closer to Pjotrs Necajevs career record of 55 singles victories as he captured a win at fourth singles in straight sets (6-1, 7-6 (7)), and Mike Basha took his match at first singles in a three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
 
Chris Cheung took the first set at fifth singles before the match was postponed due to rain. After the match was moved indoors, the Flames took the next two sets, 7-5, 6-3, to clinch their first Horizon League victory of the year.
 
UDM will play another doubleheader on Sunday at Valparaiso at 1:00 p.m.
