DETROIT (5/8/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics is unveiling its All-Decade Teams of the 2010s, compiling the best student-athletes across the past 10 seasons (2010-19) into a First and Second Team in each intercollegiate sport. Next up is a squad that captured three Horizon League championships, as well as three Horizon League Player of the Year honors during the decade in Titan women's golf.
The Titans won three Horizon League championships in a span of five seasons early in the decade, winning in 2010 and then back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014. Two Titans also earned individual Horizon League crowns as Alainna Stefan won in 2010 and Lindsey Lammers won twice during the decade in 2012 and 2014.
Lammers was a back-to-back Horizon League Player of the Year, earning the honor in her junior and senior season in 2013 and 2014. Both Lammers and Sarah Thompson were three-time All-Horizon League during the decade. Thompson was also the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year in 2014 and Terri Anthony-Ryan was as three-time HL Coach of the Year in each year the Titans won their titles.
The Titans had the low score in the decade of any Horizon League squad, carding a Horizon League-record score of 920 en route to a 20-shot victory over Youngstown State and the rest of the league in 2013. The Titans had a score lower than 1,000 as a team in four of the first five years of the decade -- 943 (2010), 983 (2011), 920 (2013) and 943 (2014). In addition to their three HL crowns, the Titans placed second in 2011 by just eight strokes and in a tie-for-second in 2012.
In all, 12 Titans earned All-League honors during the decade (2010-19), with Lammers (2012-14) and Thompson (2015-17) both earning the honor three times. Collette Hansen (2012-13) and Christina Thorne (2013-14) both earned the All-League distinction twice for the Titans, while Stefan (2010) and Olivia Richards (2014) also earned All-League.
Stefan was also two-time All-Tournament in 2010 and 2011, while Lammers earned that honor three times (2012-14) and Thorne also earning in twice (2013-14). In the Titans dominating 2013 Horizon League victory, four of the eight All-Tournament team honorees were Titans -- Lammers, Richards, Allison Sears and Thorne.
Four Titan women's golfers earned the President's Award honor during the decade -- Stefan (2011), Hansen (2013), Lammers (2014) and Thompson (2017).
All-League honors, award winners, standout and record-breaking performances, academic achievements and accolades as well as submissions from fans were all considered for each of the Detroit Mercy All-Decade Teams of the 2010s.
