Titans Collect Five Gold, Five Silver & Three Bronze Medals In Spring Opener

Sophomore Ryan Belanger tallied a silver in the 5,000 meters at Oakland.

ROCHESTER, Mich. (4/4/2026) -- It was a successful outdoor opening day for the University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team as the Titans recorded 13 top-three performances at the Golden Grizzlies Invite on Saturday at Oakland.

Senior Joshua Otten claimed first in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:57.17, and while the team of juniors Mike Ferguson and Nicholas Johnson and freshmen Kwaku Awuah and Luke Hansen crossed the line first in the 4x400 in 3:41.85.

Freshman Isaiah Fox led the way in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking 15.01, and was third in the long jump, registering 6.71 meters, while freshman Joey DeCasas earned the top mark in the long jump at 7.34m.

Sophomore Kyle Falls leaped 12.85m to win the triple jump, while freshman Nickolas Henson was runner-up at 11.80m.

Senior Jaden McKenzie took a silver in the 400m with a time of 49.05, and freshman Weston Glei was second in the 100mH in 15.16. Senior Anthony Yip placed second in the discus with a toss of 39.85m, and sophomore Ryan Belanger turned in a time of 15:00.19 for a silver in the 5,000 meters.

The Titans will have a couple of meets next weekend as some of the team will be at Bucknell for the Bison Outdoor Classic, while others will be at Central Michigan's Chippewa Challenge.
