Detroit Mercy Titans Hall of Fame
North was part of the Titans’ first two postseason berths in basketball after helping Detroit to successive appearances in the NIT. During North's two-season at U of D, he formed a Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen-like duo with another Titan star in Dave DeBusschere. With DeBusschere taking 24 shots per game and the 6-foot-5 North taking 14.3 shots per game, they led the Titans to the school's first two ever NIT appearances. In both NIT games, North led the team in scoring, hitting 33 vs. Villanova (1961) and 30 vs. Holy Cross (1962). For his career, North shot 50.1 percent from the field and averaged 18.9 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, both of which still rank in the top 10 in school history, while his field-goal percentage was top 10 during his playing days. The Detroit Northwestern High School grad came to U of D after two standout seasons at Coalinga Junior College (CA) and he went on to a professional career that included playing for the Goose Tatum Harlem Road Kings as well as playing in the North American Basketball League, Midwest Professional Basketball League and the North American Professional Basketball League.
